Many years ago when candles were made with whale blubber, the pure and clean-burning bayberry candles were preserved for special occasions when company was visiting. This began the tradition of burning bayberry candles on New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve (special occasions when we typically have company over) for health and prosperity in the coming year. We burn bayberry candles on all our special holidays, especially birthdays, for good fortune. These very precious candles make a very thoughtful gift any time of year. They are our personal favorite hostess, business and teacher gift at the holidays. Be sure to trim the wick to 1/4" before burning and keep out of drafts to ensure a slow and clean burn.
