Trim Your Wick
Sue from Candles Off Main (Annapolis, MD) 1/16/2010 12:00 PM
Sorry to hear you had so much trouble. Your situation is incredibly unfortunate. Soot is typically the result of a wick that needs to be trimmed, or caused by a draft (open window, air vent...). Be sure to trim your wick to 1/4" every time before you light a candle. Even if you trimmed before you lit the candle, if you see any smoke coming from the flame or if you see any soot forming on the candle container or the walls/ceiling around it, be sure to trim the wick again. Some candles are more finicky than others and need to be trimed just right. We've burned Jonathan Adler candles before and never had a problem, but we haven't tried this fragrance. We'll try it at home in our bathroom and see what happens and let you know!

DO NOT USE THESE CANDLES!!
M. Cat (Chicago) 12/26/2009 3:54 PM
Do not use these candles... unless you enjoy spending hours of time and energy scrubbing, bleaching, and cleaning the soot created by these candles!! We had this candle burning in our bathroom for only 3 hours and the soot layer is everywhere! The bathroom needed to be scrubbed and bleached from ceiling to floor!! Every suface had a disgusting layer of soot (we are now on our 5th attempt of bleaching our tile grout to throughly remove the soot stain). It also got us wondering if this much soot was produced in just 3 hours.....what exactly were we breathing?!?! Horrible product and should be removed immediately from the market!!!
