Luxury Retailer, Candles Off Main, Gets Creative to Succeed in Down Economy

[Annapolis, Maryland - March 18, 2009] It is often during challenging times when businesses get the most creative to survive. Such is the case for Candles Off Main. This specialty store retailer, and online website, is using innovative ways to stimulate business to survive the tough economic climate. Using new technology available on the internet has enabled Candles Off Main to reach out to its ever expanding customer base.

When Candles Off Main launched their ecommerce site in June of 2006, they set out to offer as personal customer service on-line as they do in their store in Annapolis, Maryland. What they didn't realize, however, was how much they would interact with their on-line customers three years later. The emerging business utilizes Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Ustream, videos and blogs to engage with potential customers.

David and Susan Adams, the co-founders of Candles Off Main, launched their new internet show,The Main Event, to feature new products and announce fragrances launches. The couple records one episode a day and uploads the episodes to YouTube to provide visual content for their video blog. Candles Off Main also offers a text blog to provide product information and how-to instructions. Recently Candles Off Main launched their "e;Cyber Store"e; using Ustream. The savvy business streams live from their shop in Annapolis to offer visual assistance for unique customer service during phone calls to show customers colors, sizes and demonstrate products.

According to Susan Adams, CEO/Co-Owner, "e;It used to be that all a retail business needed was a storefront. Then came websites followed by ecommerce functionality. Now companies need blogs, videos and chat ability to be more interactive with customers to survive. The game has changed and we are embracing new technology to stay current with our clientele to offer more than just products."e;

Facebook has provided a fantastic platform to provide information on company events, new products and discussions boards to initiate conversations with customers for input. Candles Off Main uses Twitter to provide immediate information on new product arrivals and announce new videos, as well as to provide impromptu photos and polls. COO/Co-Owner David Adams states, "e;To survive this slow economy, we need to get economical and creative with how we reach our customers and attract new business. We need to be everywhere our customers are."e;
