"A bayberry candle, burned to the socket, puts luck in the home, food in the larder, and gold in the pocket." - a New England tradition
Bayberry candles are made from the wax of the bayberry plant that grows in New England and in the Southeast. They are traditionally burned on Christmas Eve for good luck for the coming year. Light your bayberry candle in the morning and allow it to burn down to the socket of your candle holder. Maybe good luck will be yours for the coming year. Don't allow the flame to come into contact with a glass holder. These bayberry tapers are made with true bayberry wax blended with beeswax for added strength. No color or scent has been added. You may see a light white coating that is a natural tendency for these all-natural candles. You can buff them back to a sheen with a soft cloth. Many years ago when candles were made with whale blubber, the pure and clean-burning bayberry candles were preserved for special occasions when company was visiting. This began the tradition of burning bayberry candles on New Year's Eve and Christmas Eve (special occasions when we typically have company over) for health and prosperity in the coming year. We burn bayberry candles on all our special holidays, especially birthdays, for good fortune. These very precious candles make a very thoughtful gift any time of year. They are our personal favorite hostess, business and teacher gift at the holidays. Be sure to trim the wick to 1/4" before burning and keep out of drafts to ensure a slow and clean burn.
